Overview

Catherine is inspired by the natural world and our connection to the landscape. Her current collection of paintings draws from time spent in the landscape, from close to her home in Surrey to the Dorset and Cornwall coast, and recent travels to Mallorca and southern Spain....

Biography
She strives to capture something of the essence of a moment in time, the atmosphere and experience of a certain place, and to convey the energy of nature, alongside that of our own presence in the landscape. She is fascinated by colour, light and contrast and aims to produce paintings with freedom, depth and movement. Her expressive and energetic mark making explores the space between the abstract and the figurative. Working mainly in acrylics, Catherine also incorporates mixed media such as oil and pigment sticks, chalk pastels, ink and charcoal. She uses a range of tools, from brushes and palette knives to rollers and bamboo skewers, to provide contrast and bring vitality to her work. She enjoys adding depth to her work with both complementary and unexpected colour and mark making combinations, so her work can be further enjoyed up close as well as making an impact from a distance.
